Idaho Governor Invited to White House for Fostering the Future Accounts Launch Alongside Melania Trump

Governor Brad Little is set to travel to Washington, D.C., on Thursday to participate in a White House event alongside First Lady Melania Trump marking Idaho’s involvement in the expansion of the Fostering the Future initiative, a new savings program designed to benefit children in the foster care system.

The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. Eastern time (9 a.m. Mountain), will celebrate the rollout of Fostering the Future Accounts — dedicated savings and investment vehicles created in partnership with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is also expected to take part. Several governors from across the country have been invited to attend.

What Are Fostering the Future Accounts?

The accounts are intended to give foster children ownership of a personal financial resource — a savings and investment vehicle they can access as they age out of the foster care system. The program was developed in conjunction with the Treasury Department as part of the First Lady’s broader Fostering the Future initiative.

Idaho’s participation signals the state’s early adoption of the program, with Little joining the White House to highlight the state’s role in the launch.

How to Watch

The event will be livestreamed at WH.Gov/live for those wishing to watch remotely.

The announcement comes as Little has emphasized family-focused economic measures in recent months. Earlier this year, the governor highlighted record tax refunds totaling $579 million as part of broader relief efforts for Idaho families.
