Our Commitment to Accurate, Independent Reporting

Idaho Politics is committed to reporting that is accurate, fair, independent, and transparent. These editorial standards describe how we gather, verify, and publish the news.

Sourcing

We rely on primary sources whenever possible: the Idaho Legislature’s official session records, floor votes, committee minutes, the Secretary of State’s campaign finance database, court filings, and official statements from elected officials. When we cite secondary sources, we identify them clearly. We do not publish anonymous claims as fact.

Verification

Before publication, reporting is checked against at least one authoritative source. For legislative action, we cross-reference legislature.idaho.gov and official daily journals. For candidate filings and campaign finance, we cross-reference sos.idaho.gov. For court proceedings, we rely on court records and official court communications. Disputed claims are verified with multiple independent sources.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

Idaho Politics uses AI tools to assist with research, drafting, and editing. This is disclosed openly: our publication is produced by a small editorial team working alongside AI-assisted research tools. Every article is reviewed for accuracy against primary sources — the Idaho Legislature’s official records, Secretary of State filings, court documents, and direct reporting — before it is published. AI is a reporting tool, not a substitute for editorial judgment. We do not publish AI-generated claims that have not been verified against the underlying public record.

Corrections

When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected article with the date and nature of the correction. Major corrections are issued as separate notices. Send correction requests to corrections@idahopolitics.org.

Independence

Idaho Politics does not accept payment for editorial coverage. Our reporting is not influenced by political parties, candidates, campaigns, advocacy groups, or commercial interests. Staff and contributors do not hold paid positions with political campaigns or lobbying organizations. Any conflicts of interest are disclosed in the affected article.

Opinion vs. News

Articles labeled Commentary or Analysis reflect the views of the author. News articles are reported factually without editorial opinion. Commentary is clearly distinguished from news in both placement and labeling.

Privacy and Sources

We respect the privacy of sources, including anonymous tipsters. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle reader and source data.
