Risch, Fulcher, Simpson Advance to November After Primary Wins
All Three Incumbents Clear Republican Primary Field
Idaho’s three Republican members of Congress secured victories in Tuesday’s primary election and will proceed to the general election in November.
Senator Jim Risch and Representatives Russ Fulcher and Mike Simpson each defeated their primary challengers, with preliminary results showing comfortable margins across all three races. Official certification is scheduled for June 9.
Senate Race Results
Risch captured roughly 67 percent of Republican primary votes, collecting 151,601 ballots according to results reported early Wednesday morning. His closest competitor, Josh Roy, received approximately 14.4 percent, while Joe Evans took 14.1 percent and Denny LaVé finished with 4.3 percent.
The 83-year-old senator is completing his third six-year term in the chamber. On his campaign website, Risch identifies support for Idaho agriculture, reducing federal spending, and backing law enforcement as priorities.
David Roth won the Democratic primary with 65 percent against Brad Moore and Nickolas Bonds. The November ballot will include Roth, Libertarian Matt Loesby, and independents Todd Achilles and Natalie Fleming alongside Risch.
First District House Contest
Fulcher took approximately 78 percent of votes in the 1st Congressional District primary, receiving 96,278 ballots. Andy Briner collected 11 percent and Joseph Morrison earned 10.6 percent.
The 64-year-old representative has held the seat since 2019, covering northern and western Idaho. He listed energy independence, election security, and expanded local authority over public lands as top concerns in his campaign materials.
Kaylee Peterson won the Democratic primary over Kenneth Brungardt. The general election will feature Fulcher against Peterson, Constitution Party candidate Brendan Gomez, and independent Sarah Zabel.
Second District Race
Simpson secured around 63 percent of Republican primary votes in the 2nd Congressional District, totaling 62,452 ballots. Brian Keene received approximately 21 percent and Perry Shumway garnered 15.7 percent.
The 75-year-old congressman represents eastern Idaho and Boise in his 14th House term. Simpson identified cost-of-living concerns, domestic energy policy, and agricultural workforce immigration reform as his priority issues.
Ellie Gilbreath won the Democratic primary after opponent Julie Wiley withdrew from the race in March. Simpson will face Gilbreath, independents Emre Houser and Tripp Charles Hutchinson, Libertarian Will Johanson, and Constitution Party candidate C. Sierra in November.
General Election Timeline
The November 3 general election will determine who serves Idaho in the 119th Congress. Risch’s seat carries a six-year term, while both House positions are two-year terms.
County election officials across Idaho will canvass and certify primary results by the June 9 deadline, making outcomes official.
