Brad Little Announces Record $254.8 Million Grocery Tax Refunds

Gov. Brad Little announced Oct. 30 that Idaho had returned $254.8 million through the 2025 grocery tax credit, the largest annual refund total in state history.

The Idaho State Tax Commission had processed 813,241 claims totaling $254,849,965. The total may increase as the commission completes additional 2025 tax returns and remaining claims.

Refund totals rise

The 2025 amount was about $49 million higher than the prior year’s total. Idaho issued $205,162,246 through 822,401 grocery tax credit claims for 2024.

For 2023, the state issued $201,902,723 across 805,341 claims.

Little said grocery costs have put pressure on household finances. “We know high grocery prices are squeezing family budgets and hitting our seniors hard,” Little said.

Credit expansion

Little signed House Bill 231 into law in 2025, expanding Idaho’s grocery tax credit. The governor’s office said the governor and Legislature have delivered more than $6.1 billion in total tax relief since Little took office.
