Mike Simpson Wins 15th Term in Idaho House Seat
U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson won reelection to Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Elinor Gilbreath. The Associated Press called the contest Tuesday night.
Simpson received 159,148 votes, or 51.5 percent. Gilbreath received 125,562 votes, or 40.6 percent.
Primary and General Election
Simpson advanced to the general election after winning the Republican primary in May against Brian Keene and Perry Shumway. Will Johanson, Emre Houser and Tripp Hutchinson also appeared on the general-election ballot.
First elected to Congress in 1998, Simpson will serve a 15th term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Before entering Congress, he worked as a dentist and previously served in the Idaho Legislature, including as speaker of the Idaho House.
Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District includes eastern Idaho communities such as Idaho Falls and Pocatello, along with Twin Falls and much of the Magic Valley.
