Raúl Labrador Wins Another Term as Idaho Attorney General
Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador defeated Lori Hickman in the race for attorney general, securing another four-year term. The Associated Press called the contest for Labrador at 3:07 a.m. Wednesday.
Hickman’s campaign drew endorsements from 54 prominent Republicans, including Guy G. Hurlbutt. She argued that Labrador had brought politics into the attorney general’s office.
Labrador maintained that the office’s responsibilities are not political. During the campaign, he pointed to work clearing a backlog of cases handled by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and to his defense of Idaho’s abortion law.
“When you are elected by the people, obviously it’s such an honor to be chosen by them to do it,” Labrador said.
He also said elected officials remain accountable to voters, adding that constituents can replace officeholders who do not follow their wishes.
